At The Urban Parrot, we are dedicated to creating a flight-friendly, enriching, and empowered future for exotic birds through compassionate rescue, rehabilitation, sanctuary, and public education. Our mission is to provide every bird in our care with an environment that meets their needs- whether social, behavioral, medical, or anything in between. We prioritize opportunities for flight, a sense of freedom, and autonomy within safe spaces.

We are committed to enhancing avian welfare and "whole health" by partnering with local avian specialists- veterinary and behavioral. We believe that specialized medical care is a key element when keeping captive wildlife, and our unwavering ability to sustain and pursue routine exams, diagnostics, and advanced rehabilitation efforts allow us to tailor unique care plans to each individual that best suits their needs.

Each individual that enters our care is evaluated thoroughly by an avian veterinarian who then partners with our staff and volunteers to craft a plan for the bird's future. Eligible birds enter our adoption program, eagerly awaiting homes that allow them the individualized attention and care they deserve. Birds who present with substantial fear, aggression, or behavioral adversities towards human caretakers are further evaluated by behaviorists and specialized volunteers to assess train-ability and socialization needs. Birds who ultimately thrive in hands-off, aviary style environments either become permanent sanctuary residents, or are admitted to conservation programs that help further genetic diversity of their species.

Our commitment extends to our partnerships not only with local avian specialists, but also to rescues, shelters, and sanctuaries nationwide. We strongly believe that in order to help save birds- both captive and wild- we must work as a team. Therefore, we strive to sustain positive relationships with those who support our mission, and collaborate closely with other specialized avian rescues and facilities. When bird-people win, birds win too.
